With the change in seasons come new skincare issues. But you can prepare for this transition and try various ways to adapt your skincare routine. Continue reading to find out how.

Since spring will soon be here you may be beginning to feel a lightness of spirit, with the promise of longer and warmer days on the horizon. However, other changes will occur that you may not be looking forward to as much, for example, new skincare problems.

Before we explain how you can adjust your skincare routine, let’s go into what is meant by the term ‘skincare’.

What Is Skincare?

To maintain healthy-looking skin relieved of any skin conditions, a regular and consistent routine is required, which consists of washing and applying nourishing treatment to the skin. This practice is known as skin care. 

The nature of your skincare routine, i.e. the type of products you use and how often, will depend on the type of skin you have and the skin conditions you are prone to experiencing. 

For example, if you have dry skin, you will experience different skin issues compared to someone who has oily skin, and therefore, you will require different skincare products.

If you are prone to acne breakouts, then they probably occur, more often than not, as the seasons change. Acne is a common condition in which spots appear on the face and body due to oily skin and a buildup of dead skin cells.

These breakouts can be exacerbated when you sweat more often, which is likely to happen when the temperature rises and you begin to spend more time outside partaking in physical activities.  

Rough Skin

When your skin starts to lose water too quickly due to excess sweating brought on by rising temperatures, dry and rough patches may occur. 

Furthermore, the red and white bumps on your skin will likely appear when there is a change in humidity. Regardless of whether moisture increases or decreases, this can irritate your skin. 

Sun Rash

If you have gone through several months of cold temperatures, rain, and wind, then when the days begin to grow warmer, this is bound to have some effect on your skin. 

A sun rash is a collection of small bumps that appear on the skin when it becomes inflamed. This will occur on the sensitive areas of skin that have been exposed to sunlight.

The severity of sun rash will depend on how sensitive you are to sunlight.  

These are just some of the skin conditions that may occur in the transition between winter and spring. Let’s now look at how you can adapt your skincare routine to help avoid or eliminate any skin issues so that you can have healthier and happier-looking skin.

Adjusting Your Skincare Routine for Spring #1 Assess Your Current Skincare Routine

Check that your current skincare products are within the use-by date. If any of your products are out of date, then this is likely to cause more issues to occur. 

Once you have removed the skincare products that have expired, start replacing them with springtime skincare products.

#2 Protect Your Skin From Sun Damage


As the weather becomes warmer, you should opt for a daily moisturizer that will protect your skin from the sun. 

For example, consider choosing a tinted moisturizer that has a protection level of at least SPF 30. 

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and the number indicates how long it would take for the skin to redden from the sun’s UV radiation. So, if you applied an SPF 30 moisturizer, then it should take up to 30 times longer for your skin to burn. 

Applying sunscreen to your skin is an important step in your skincare routine and should not be missed. If you do, then you are more likely to experience wrinkles and age spots.

Ideally, any sun protection should be applied 30 minutes before you venture outside to ensure that it sinks into your skin.

#3 Hydrate Your Skin   


For skin to look rejuvenated and feel soft, it needs to remain hydrated. This is why the hydration stage of your skincare routine is extremely important, as are the fluids you consume. 

You should drink plenty of fluid throughout the day (at least 6-8 glasses/cups). The more water the better! This will help to prevent your skin from becoming dry and flakey. Regarding your skincare routine, Profhilo Haenkenium is effective at trapping antioxidants to hydrate the skin.

It can also be beneficial in springtime to include a skincare booster within your skincare routine, which consists of a highly-concentrated ingredient to target a specific issue. 

Exfoliation Is Key

Ideally, you should opt for an exfoliating product that is gentle on the skin. This is because if you overdo this stage of your skincare routine by scrubbing too hard or using products that include harsh chemicals, then it can aggravate or redden your skin.

Switch Your Moisturizer

Once the days begin to grow consistently warmer, you should switch to using a lighter moisturizer. The heavy-duty moisturizer that you may have used in winter is likely to make your skin greasy during spring and summer.

You should consider a moisturizer that contains effective emollients to reduce water loss. For example, Hyaluronic Acid (HA), which is found in many hydrating skincare products, is effective at providing deep hydration. 

When the skin is hydrated, this reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, helping to achieve a brighter, youthful complexion.

Pick Your Cleanser Wisely

A cleanser has many jobs. It helps to remove any dirt, provide hydration, and soothe the skin. 

Ideally, you should use a light cleanser in the mornings and a hydrating cleanser in the evenings. 

A lighter cleanser will remove any dirt and oil that may have built up on your skin overnight, but it will not strip your skin of its natural oils. For example, sebum, which is oil produced by the skin, is a natural moisturizer that helps to keep skin soft and smooth. 

On the other hand, after spending a day outside on warm days, an excessive buildup of dirt is likely to occur and the skin may become dry, so a hydrating cleanser is the best choice of product for the evenings.
